Gauge Reading / SymptomImageDiagnosis & Action
Gauge reads 0 PSI (Completely Empty)Major Leak. Your system has lost absolutely everything. Do not just add gas, it will leak out immediately.
Action: You must use a Stop Leak product first to seal the system before attempting a refill.
Gauge is in “Low” / White Zone (e.g., 10-20 PSI)Normal Low Charge. The system has slowly lost charge over time, which is normal for older cars.
Action: proceed with using a standard Refill Kit or can.
Gauge is in Green Zone, but air is warm.Mechanical Issue. Your pressure is correct, but it’s still not cooling. This usually means the compressor clutch isn’t engaging or there is an electrical fault.
Action: Do not add more gas. Consult a mechanic.
Gauge is in Red Zone (Too High)Overcharged or Blockage. There is too much pressure in the system, or a blockage is preventing flow.
Action: STOP IMMEDIATELY. Do not add gas. Disconnect carefully. You need professional help to evacuate the excess pressure safely.
SymptomImageDiagnosis & Action
Compressor isn’t clicking on.Pressure too low (yet). Modern compressors have a safety switch that prevents them from running if the system is nearly empty.
Action: Keep adding gas slowly. As pressure builds past 15-20 PSI, you should hear a loud “click” and the compressor will start spinning.
The gauge needle is fluctuating wildly.Compressor cycling. This is normal when the system is low. The compressor turns on, sucks pressure down, turns off, pressure rises.
Action: Continue filling. As the system gets full, the compressor will stay on longer and the needle will stabilize in the BLUE zone.
The can is freezing up.Rapid gas release. When compressed gas is released quickly, it gets very cold.
Action: Pause for a minute to let the can warm up. Wrap a towel around the can, or hold it in front of the car’s warm radiator fan for 30 seconds to keep the gas flowing.

It blew cold for a week, now it’s warm again. You have a leak. The new gas you just put in has escaped.
Action: You need to purchase a Stop Leak kit and repeat the process.
I filled to the Green Zone, but it’s not extremely cold.Potential Overfill or Weak Compressor. If you are at the very top of the BLUE zone on a hot day, you might be slightly overfilled. Alternatively, an old compressor might just be weak.
Action: Drive it for a few days. If it doesn’t improve, do not add more gas.
